Sikkim – Where Nature Smiles

Sikkim is a mystical wonderland of spectacular natural beauty. The panoramic perfection of the snow-capped Himalayas, the heady aroma of rhododendron groves, the vibrant culture of the Bhutias, the Lepchas and the Gorkhas, the Buddhist faith intermingling with Hindu belief, the infinite variety of its flora and fauna makes it a holiday that is at once fascinating, soul stirring and challenging.

The crowning glory of Sikkim is Mt. Khangchendzonga, the third highest mountain in the world. With magnificent snow scenery, it is often regarded as the undisputed monarch among the peaks of the world. Our ride through Yuksom and Pemayangtse, would offer us breathtaking views.

Sikkim is home to more than 200 Buddhist monasteries and Lhakangs; you will visit two of them during your Sikkim bike trip. The country’s premier monastery, Pemayangste, is located on a hilltop with impressive views of the Khangchendzonga range. It was built in 1705, during the reign of Chador Namgyal. The original Rumtek Monastery was damaged by an earthquake and has since been rebuilt. It is the largest of its kind in the country.

Our Sikkim tour packages are designed around the more natural attractions of the country. From the mighty River Teesta and River Rangit to the amazing Kanchenzongkha waterfalls and Darjeeling Hill, you will come face to face with everything that makes this country so beautiful. Explore the winding roads for yourself on your very own trip to Sikkim.

Day 1: Arrive Badgogra and Ride to Darjeeling

You should plan to fly into Bagdogra Airport by morning or latest by noon. We will receive you and transfer you to the next door Hotel Marinas. After a quick lunch, we will change to riding gear and familiarise with our mounts.

We will brief you on the ride modalities the ride up the Darjeeling hill. The ride is an upward steep climb and twisty turns through lush green tea estates. We will stop at Observatory Hill for a 360 degree view of this beautiful hill town, before checking into a hotel near the Chaar Rasta.

For the tea aficionados, Darjeeling is heaven - home to some of the world’s best black tea ranging from Rs 5000/- to Rs 50,000/- for a kilo. Do take some time out to sample the variety and take some along with you.

Get ready to party tonight at Gatty’s Café or Glenary or any one of the several pubs and bars. There are live bands with great drinks and food. But do turn in by 10 pm since, you have a sunrise ride.

Day 2: Darjeeling to Pelling

We ride out 45 minutes before sunrise to Tiger Hill, the highest point in this area. Weather Gods willing, we will see a dazzling sunrise view of the Kanchenjunga and the snow covered peaks of the entire eastern Himalayan range. On a clear day you can even see Mount Everest from here.

After breakfast, we ride out to Pelling in West Sikkim. The route initially takes you a steep hill down and then cuts across the lush green valleys, following River Teesta till we reach Melli - the confluence with River Rangit. Further up, we will take a well-deserved break at the view point near Melli to watch the magnificent confluence of these rivers.

Our next stop is a 300 year old Pemayangtse Monastery planned, designed and founded by Lama Lhatsun Chempo, and it will involve a short detour. We will pay homage at this important monastery which is one of the oldest in Sikkim.

We will check into our Hotel in Pelling by late afternoon. Pelling is known for serene holy lakes, old monasteries and pristine landscape. We will visit the magical Khechuapari Lake where you wishes come true, and see Kanchenzongkha Waterfalls. We then visit Yuksom, the ancient capital of Sikkim before returning to the hotel. If the time is short we may do some of these parts the next day. Treat yourself to authentic Sikkimese cuisine with Thukpa, Momos, Vegetable curry and soup. Then, snuggle to sleep in the back drop of the third highest mountain range in the world.

Day 3: Pelling to Gangtok

You are strongly advised to wake up early and catch a sunrise view of Kamnchenzongkha. Post breakfast, we brief and ride towards the capital of Sikkim - Gangtok. Enroute to Gangtok we would have a glance at the most prestigious and elegant Rumtek Monastery.

After some good times spend in Gangtok, the only city of Sikkim, we would now embark on a journey the most unique and holy lands of North Sikkim. This is the route it is widely believed to have been taken by Guru Nanak Dev Ji, on his journey to Tibet.

We would stop over at a small hamlet of Mangan for our permits to North Sikkim and then ride out to Chungthang on the way to Lachen. Lachen is the base for making the jouney the hallmark destination of Gurudongmar Lake.

Lachen is far and beyond and as the altitude rises, we would have to get used to lesser comforts and more adventure.

Day 5: Lachen to Gurudongmar and Back to Lachung

After breakfast, we ride out to North Sikkim Plateau (an extension of Tibetan Plateu). Those made of sterner stuff, can hazard a dip in the freezing Gurudongmar Tso. After lunch enroute, we ride to Lachung, the valley of the rhododendron flowers. The evening is free to visit Lachung Monastery. We stay tonight at Lachung.

Day 6: Lachung to Gangtok

We have a late morning start today, and we visit the Gurudwara at Chungthang as we head towards Gangtok once more. You could reach early today and enjoy the nightlife at Gangtok. Café Live and Loud, Pub 25 and X’cape are some of the better known hang-outs that serve great beers and international cuisine along with live music.

Day 7: Rest Day at Gangtok

Having accomplished the adventurous journey to North Sikkim, you now deserve a break in the beutiful city of Gangtok. You could relax, trek to Hanuman Tok or just spend time soaking the local culture and visiting the market place.

Day 8: Gangtok - Nathula - Kalimpong / Siliguri

Today you would see the beautiful East Sikkim. We brief and ride after breakfast to Changu lake, where you can switch your mount to a colourfully attired Yak.

We then head onto Nathula pass which was the exchange point for the Great Sil Route of year. Say hello to soldiers of the Chinese army and mingle with our soldiers as they guard our Northern Border.

We will then pay homage at Harbhajan Baba Mandir, a shrine dedicated to a veteran soldier. The traditions and customs of the Indian Army as well as the quaint practices of this shrine are sure to fascinate you.

" I did a 6 day motorcycle ride with the Viktorianz in April 2017. These guys are a bunch of ex Indian Army and they were professional, prompt and very responsive right from day one. The hotels were well selected, the rides were hard and the company was great. Anyone wanting to improve their riding skills and endurance levels must do this tour. Mind you, this is not a Sunday breakfast ride with a bunch of Superbike posers in fancy riding gear. It is serious riding through a variety of conditions and you will be tired. But Sikkim is a beautiful state and by the end of it you will be smiling (hopefully). Tip - prepare for 4 seasons. Rain, dry, cold as well as sun. Things change rapidly in the hills of Sikkim. "
