Georgia Road Trip
Georgia is a very unique riding destination. During this ride we spend the nights and eat in the most authentic and best guesthouses.
A mother cooks on old wood stoves with fresh vegetables from the garden and kids will show us the family wine cellar, and give as a taste of that. This is the best way to grasp what Georgia is about, and the best way to get close to what Georgia entails.
On the road we will visit lots of sights; centuries old churches and other buildings along with the most amazing panoramic views.
Besides, you will have the opportunity to fully enjoy the nature, culture, the unique Georgian hospitality and the amazing cuisine and the drinks to go along with that.

We go to pick up our cars in the morning. After packing up in we head out East towards Georgia’s semi-dessert. Through the Brutalist town of Rustavi we end up in Georgia’s semi-dessert. Leaving some adventurous dirt trails behind us we visit the Davit Gareja Monastery. A rock-hewn complex which is inhabited by monks until this day. We have lunch in the middle of the desert-nothingness. We ride deeper into the desert on the gravel trails after which we head North.
From here on we enjoy totally different scenery. We encounter sloping hills and Mediterranean sceneries. We spent night in Telavi, the capital of Kakheti.
Our host is a wine maker as well that makes wine according to the 8000 year old traditions. Stay at Winemaker’s Family Home.

Mountain passes go up and down as they take you from corner to corner, a true Walhalla for any motorcycle enthusiast. Our accommodation offers the same views over the mountain tops to allow us to enjoy the spectacular views through the night when the famous Gergeti Holy Trinity church lights up. Later in the afternoon we make an off-road trip to Truso. One of the most gorgeous valleys in the country. The majestic medieval fortress we find at the end of the valley oozes history and remoteness. Stay is at Twins Achkoti.

After a delicious breakfast there is time for some fun in this spectacular region. A ride up to the Gergeti church and/or some off road tracks to small and remote mountain villages. After the morning fun we move southwards. From Stepantsminda we ride back over the famous Georgian Military Highway. We take the small bypass connecting the old capital of Georgia called Mtskheta, with Gori. The latter is a city which is still drenched in a thick Soviet sauce.
Nothing mentionable happens in Gori was it not for the fact that one of the most infamous Georgians was born here: Joseph Stalin. For those interested we will pay a visit to the museum that gives an unusual account of his life as the leader of the Soviet Union. Gori has also been the theatre for another historical event, the Russian invasion of 2008. We spent the night at a Gori Inn - a luxury hotel, sauna, pool, they got it all.

From Gori we take the smaller village roads up to Mitarbi. Amazing gravel serpentines slowly bringing us closer to the remote Tababtskhuri lake. We ride over the endless high plains of Samtskhe. A region not only known for it natural beauty but also for its cultural treasures. Later on we ride on to Vardzia valley. The region can be seen as the cultural birthplace of current day Georgia. One of these cultural sights is the Vardzia cave complex. A monastery that was secretly built in the 12th century behind a rock that offered protection from invaders. After an earthquake the rock and thereby the complex’s cover tumbled down. We would stay at Valodias Cottages Vardzia.

Today we take the small road connecting Georgia’s East and West. The road we ride used to be a section of the historic Silk Road that crossed these lands. During the trip surroundings change quickly, every 20 kilometers it might appear as if you are in another country. With these beautiful scenes and its many curves, we head towards Tbilisi. We take a gravel detour once again. One started by a gravel serpentine taking us out of the gorgeous Vardzia valley.
Through the remote villages of these historic “Silk Road’’ lands. We hit a little bit of tarmac again. After some windy curves we take a short cut towards Tbilisi. A challenging unknown gravel trail to enter the city right where our HQ is, is up next. Coming from the mountains we enter Tbilisi with some great viewpoints and the sun falling down over the city.
