This is an awesome riding experience in North Thailand.
You should plan to land in Chiang Mai, at around noon as the hotel check in normally is at 2 pm. Do a quick check-in into your hotel, get your bikes issued and fuelled. You will then be taken on a trial run to either Doi Suthep Mountain or Samoeng Loop. Take it easy while riding today. Be back by evening, freshen up and take a walk to the Night Bazar. If you have not seem the Lady Boy cabaret show in Bangkok, then you must see this one at 9:15 am in Anusaran Night Market.
Today you would ride out early in the morning. The world famous Mae Hongson Loop of 1864 hairpin bends begins today as you ride up the highest mountain in Thailand - the Doi Inthanon. You would have some very interesting roads as you travel to Mae Sariang. Today we would reach a small Thai border town of Mae Sariang - and check in. You would like the simplicity of this place.
This day you will enjoy the beautiful roads and forests. Moving further on to Mae Hongson Loop you have some nice curves to negotiate through the jungles of the greenest district in Thailand. You would be in Mae Hongson town by lunch.
Post lunch, you would cross some tricky streams to go and see the long neck tribals women. Karen Tribal Village is one such unique village in the world where women have long necks covered in brass rings. You would pass a 2nd World War airfield as you return to your hotel. You dinner could be by the lake side.
This is a relatively relaxed day. We ride out of Mae Hongson, and begin to climb some steep slopes with acute hairpin bends. Your motorcycling skills would sure be put to use on this day. Our first halt would be Pang Mapha where we take a detour to see one of the finest cave systems in Thailand - The Lod Caves. You would be rowed on Bamboo rafts into the cave and you could see some pre historic coffins and of course an array of Bats. In the afternoon you then ride out to Pai - the hippy party town on North Thailand - very popular with young university crowd of Chiang Mai and European back packers. Enjoy the walking street from some great local cuisine.
Today is one of the longest rides and thus you would begin the ride early in the morning. Passing some more hairpin bends today, once again your riding skills will be challenged. Soon you would climb down the mountains and begin to ride in plain roads. We then have some nice riding to do to reach Chiang Dao for lunch. We finish an early lunch and ride on to the Golden Triangle. We should be there by evening. Our stay would be by the mighty Mekong River. Enjoy an evening by the River.
This early morning we have one main thing to do. A morning ferry across Mekong River to Laos flea market and if time permits the 212 House of Opium museum. Golden Triangle was infamous for the drug smuggling a few decades back. We then ride briskly to cross Chiang Rai and have a brief halt at White Temple on the way to Chiang Mai.
