Bhutan Trekking

So, why should you trek Bhutan?

Although there are plenty of reasons to take the plunge, some of our favourite reasons to book your trip today include:

  • It is one of the world’s 10 biodiversity hotspots.
  • It boasts a rich culture and is quite spiritual in nature.
  • You will fall in love with the people and their hospitality.
  • It is home to a number of colourful and lively festivals.
  • The mountains, valleys and monasteries are breathtaking.

When is the best time to visit?

Spring and autumn are easily the best seasons for trekking. As such, you should look to plan your trip sometime either between March and May or September and November. At these times of year, the temperature ranges from 20oC to -10oC – the days are brighter and warmer, whilst the nights are colder.

What are some of the best treks?

For a small country, Bhutan offers a number of well-known treks that any traveller is sure to love. Some of the best ones include the Jomolhari Trek (8 days), the Snowman Trek (25 days), Bumthang Owl Trek (3 days), Dagala Thousand Lakes Trek (6 days), Punakha Winter Trek (4 days) and Druk Path Trek (the best choice for beginners).

Are there any tips to keep in mind?

To ensure that you have the best possible experience when you trek Bhutan, keep the following tips in mind:

  • Get yourself medically checked prior to commencing the trek to ensure that you’re in good health.
  • Ensure that aspirin, motion sickness tablets, bandages and cough drops are a part of your medical kit.
  • Drink plenty of water and take frequent breaks to help avoid dizziness and sickness.
  • Remember that many of the routes are quite isolated, so be sure to stay with your group and carry a map.
  • Wear shoes that are comfortable and have a sole that has been designed for trekking.
