Top Reasons To Fall In Love With Road Trips

Many people associate road trips with more domestic travel – it evokes thoughts of heading down the coast for the weekend, up to the snow during the winter or slowly making your way to another state for a holiday. But have you ever considered road tripping around a foreign country? This can be a great way to take in the sights and explore more than you ever would otherwise.

After all, it’s not about the destination, it’s about how you get there.

You will be in direct control of the trip, from start to finish. There are plenty of other reasons to love road trips, some of which we have outlined here:

Amazing road trips
  • Expand your Perspective
When you travel to a foreign country, you often keep to the major cities and tourist areas. Whilst there is nothing wrong with this, it does somewhat limit your perspective of the country, its culture and people. By hitting the road, you will broaden your horizons and have far more authentic experiences than you would otherwise.
  • Flexibility
No other mode of transport allows more freedom and convenience than a car or motorbike. There aren’t any strict timetables, check-ins or baggage restrictions that you have to adhere to. Instead you can leave whenever you feel like it, travel at your own pace and stop to take in the scenery whenever the mood strikes you.
  • Activities Along the Way
You have the opportunity to be spontaneous. As you drive along, you will be able to stop and enjoy activities that you may otherwise never get the chance to do – explore a little-advertised trail, sample some locally grown produce or even try your hand at bungee jumping. Heaps of activities are available outside major tourist areas, and many aren’t well advertised.
  • Tune In
This is the perfect opportunity to listen to your favourite music. Why not create a special playlist of tunes that you will forever associate with your trip? Sing along with your traveling companions or, if you’re travelling alone, feel free to crank the music up and sing along at the top of your lungs. Music can really help to set the tone for the whole trip.
  • Stop to Refuel and Refresh
Whenever you feel like having a rest, going to the bathroom or grabbing a bite to eat, all you need to do is pull into the nearest service station. Here, you will meet all kinds of people and be able to sample foods that you may not otherwise. This is also a great time to refuel, ensuring that you don’t find yourself with any empty tank in the middle of nowhere.

Before heading off on your journey, it’s important to ensure that you are road trip ready. Besides filling up the tank and having your vehicle checked over for potential issues, some useful tips include: downloading a GPS or maps app onto your phone, ensuring that you have all relevant identification papers, ensuring that you have enough cash and credit cards, and following road rules.

And, above all else, don’t forget to pack a camera to capture the experience.
